Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency, has advised the youth to be mindful of some unscrupulous politicians who might want to use them to foment trouble before and during the December 7, 2024 elections.
“As a youth, you must not allow politicians to use you as tools to cause misunderstanding that could easily trigger violence in the electioneering,” he said.
Rather channel your youthful exuberance into activities that would promote peace and social cohesion and remain as campaigners of societal peace, he said.
Describing political violence as uncivilized and unacceptable, Hon. Andrew, who is the Deputy Ranking member of the Works and Housing committee of parliament, said it was the worst form of human rights abuse inimical to human growth and development.
Political violence threatens multi-party democracy, he added and advised the youth to remain resolute, ignore and help name and shame perpetrators of political violence.
“Always be conscious of what you say wherever you find yourself”, Hon.Andrew stated during the “Tampuorju” Music Concert organised in Taari in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency.
Hon Chiwitey acknowledged the importance of the concert in its promotion of Birifor music and culture and urged them to perceive the music industry as a business and not only for entertainment.
He also thanked the organisers, Emma and his team, and the main artist behind the program Kambou Etinne for the beautiful organisation.
He added that such programs promote unity and development, especially among the youth.
The Hon Member of Parliament reiterated his resolve to support the organisation of a Birifor National Music concert/Festival at all times.
He encouraged the youth to take advantage of National music programs like the MTN music and mentor on TV3.
Hon Chiwitey added that we are able to do this because of the peace we enjoy.
He therefore urged the youth, especially in this election year, not to allow themselves to be used by some unscrupulous politicians.
He stated that politics is not, and should not be about how much you can lie or insult.
Rather, it should be about how the area can be developed.
He lamented the negligence of development in the area for the past seven years.
He donated a cash amount and some plastic chairs to support the concert/community.
He was accompanied by his constituency vice chairman and some executives.
