Sawla- Tuna – Kalba MP appeals to government to fix Tuna- Kalba road.

The Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency in the Savannah Region, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey has made a passionate appeal to the government to give a face-lift to the Tuna-Kalba road within his constituency.

The MP expressed worry on the dilapidated nature of the Tuna-Kalba road, which he said is affecting the movement of goods and services in the areas.

He said the bad nature of the road had led to the increased armed robbery cases within the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district and called for urgent attention to arrest the situation.

He expressed this concern in an interview with Yagbon News as part of the road is almost cut-off due to heavy rainfalls.

Hon. Andrew said he raised the issue in parliament this year directing it to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta to see to it that the construction of the road was completed but to no avail.

He however painfully recalled, with great concern that; since the creation of the District it has not seen any major road construction in the district. He lamented particularly about the Tuna- Kalba road that was awarded to a contractor since 2016.

He further observed that the primary occupation of most of the people in his constituency is basically anchored on farming and that in recognition of the agricultural sector’s potentials in the area it would make economic sense if some attention is given to the road network in his constituency especially that of the Tuna-Kalba road where the farmer folks find it difficult, if not impossible, to transport their farm produce market centres due to the poor road network.

This, sometimes, results in post-harvest losses and further weakens the margins of rural farm households; thereby dampening the spirit of the farmer folks, he noted.

The Hon. Member of Parliament further argued that the deplorable nature of the road equally affects the health delivery system in his constituency. In his submission, he maintained that the poor nature of the road prevents most patients in the constituency from reaching the hospital in the District capital in accessing health services.

He said this is particularly the case during the rainy seasons, when flooding is most common, putting communities apart.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey appeals to the government to come to the aid of his constituents, as a matter of urgency in resolving the deplorable nature of road in his constituency so as to rekindle the spirit of the farmer folks in the area.

Residents in the area in an interview with Yagbon News equally lamented over the poor road between Tuna and Kalba.

A resident who spoke to Yagbon News narrated that the road which was awarded by the erstwhile John Mahama government in 2016 has since been abandoned.

They also stated that since their major occupation is farming, they always find it difficult to convey their farm produce to the market centres.

They are therefore appealing to the government to continue the construction of the Kalba-Tuna road which is currently almost cut- off due heavy rainfalls.
