The Savannah Regional Minister Hon. Saeed Mauzu Jibril, has confirmed the renomination of Hon. Veronica Alele Heming and Mohammed Tamimu for the Bole District and East Gonja Municipal Assembly respectively.

He made the confirmation in an interview with Diwura Abdul Fatawu today, 11th October, 2021 during Yagbon Radio morning show “Tea cup” where he noted that the renomination of the rejected MMDCEs is not only in the Savannah region but nationwide and it is the decision by the president to give those individuals a second chance.

“The president has renominated Mohammed Tamimu for East Gonja municipal assembly and Veronica Alele Heming for the Bole district but I’m yet to officially write to the various assemblies and the regional electoral commissioner on the renomination of these candidates in the region”, the minister stated.

“The East Gonja Municipal Assembly and the Bole District both failed to elect their Municipal and District Chief Executive when they couldn’t obtain the two- third threshold in the first round of voting by Assembly Members.

He stated that if the renominated MMDCEs fail to be confirm by the various assemblies then the President is most likely to nominate a different person for those assemblies even though the President has the reserved power to renominate them more than twice.

He noted that he shall serve the letters on Wednesday and within 21 days after those letters have been served elections can be held for their confirmation but if they still fail to obtain more than 50 per cent but gets exactly a 50 per cent approval then elections shall be held within the next 10 days for them.

That notwithstanding, Hon. Saeed Mauzu Jibril called on Assembly members and Government appointees within the two assemblies to put aside any differences they might be having with the nominees and to prioritize the development of their districts by doing the needful in order for the nominees to be approved.

He also noted that the achievements of Hon. Veronica Alele Heming in the last four years for the Bole District is unmatched but cautioned the government appointees that he has the power to revoke their appointment if they fail to rally their support behind the nominees from the presidency since sabotaging those nominees means they are against the progress of the party.
