The Assembly Member for Chache Electoral Area in the Bole District has called on the government of Ghana to consider resourcing Assembly Members to enable them carry out public education in the wake of COVID- 19 .
Hon. Kunsaari said, Assembly Members are the first people the communities depend on for information and education about directives from central government.
The Assembly Member made this known in write up placed on his Facebook wall and sighted by Yagbon News.
He argued that, there is the need for government to consider them as front line workers in the fight against COVID- 19 as that will enable them carry out regular checks to give accurate reportage to authorities in charge of managing the spread of the disease.
According to him government has a duty to give each Assembly Member a means of travelling including travelling allowances to empower them support in this trying times.
Hon.Kunsaari added that government should as a matter of urgency resource all Assembly Member with enough hand sanitizers, PPEs , Veronica buckets to be used for demonstrations and mounting at vantage points in their various electoral areas.
Its unfortunate that some Assembly Members use their own vehicles and fuel to tour their electoral areas to inspect, educate or support communities to be abreast of current the state of Ghana on COVID- 19 and yet they are not considered as front line workers, Kunsaari indicated.
In furtherance, he said Assembly Members are always the first to remember when it comes to executing government project or policy but last when it comes to resourcing.
This has reduced the value of members of District Assemblies hence the reluctant nature of most Honourables members towards national issues, he indicated .
Supporting Assembly Members with basic resources will come a long way to avoid bribing of Assembly Members to violate the orders of the president as negotiating swiftly with family members for burials in the case of funerals, Kunsaari noted.
