Over hundred supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Sawla -Tuna-Kalba constituency of the Savannah region have crossed carpet to join the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defected members, announced their decision on Saturday, 10th February, 2024 at Tuna, during a health walk organized by the party.
The defectees consist of branch executives, communicators and elders of the NPP within Tuna, Soma, Jang and Baadigi communities.
According to them, the decision to leave the party [NPP] was borne out of negligence from the Nana Addo led government towards the development of the area.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Savannah Regional Communication Officer, Mr RA Jail.
Enumerating the reasons warranting their actions, the leader and spokesperson of the defectees, Mr. Jebuni Sylvester, (also a law lecturer), lamented bitterly on the total neglect of his people in the area of development under the current wasteful Nana Addo/Bawumia government.
He cited Kyebi roads vis-sa-vis Sawla-Tuna-Kalba roads as example: whereas Kyebi township roads see periodic asphaltic relay treats, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba have however been denied roads improvement and other sectors of development since this government came to being.
Secondly, he stated equivocally that per the socio-economic direction of the ruling administration, the youth cannot be guaranteed of a better future in the ruling New Patriotic Party.
He rounded it up by stating, “we have now located our roots, we don’t belong to the NPP.” And lamented how two of party’s staunched members, Vugu Naa and Mr Kipo Sunyazi, were badly treated and neglected; “for example, we saw how he (Vugu Naa) was frustrated by the party till he passed on. None of the national executives came for his funeral. As if that isn’t enough, take a look at the status of Mr Kipo Sunyazi (former DCE under Kuffour) under the NPP today.
He’s on social media ranting over how the NPP snubbed him to his faith. But we (defectees) know ourselves and what we want. We have left the NPP for good”.
Amidst cheers and dancing, the Regional Chairman welcomed them into the party, and assured them of his constant support. He has also charged each one of them to work tirelessly to send their former party (NPP) back to opposition.
The MP for the area Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey admonished them to remain resolute and firm and should not succumbed to any intimidation from members of the New Patriotic Party.
He assured them of their fair share of the national cake when H.E John Dramani Mahama becomes president of the Republic of Ghana.
