The Savannah Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education ( NCCE ), Mr. Issaka Zitor, on Thursday, July 23, 2020, through a radio discussion sensitized indigenes of Bole on the need to protect their environment from degradation.

The program is part of series of outreaches that the NCCE is undertaking in the Region to enlighten its citizens to be ‘keepers of their immediate environment’ under the theme; “Public education on corruption and environmental governance”.

Speaking on Yagbon Radio, the Savannah Regional Director of NCCE advised that indigenes should be interested in protecting their environment from degradation.

He said, ‘trees, animals and the land itself are special gifts from God to mankind which must be protected for own survival’.

‘God has therefore entrusted these creations in our hands for us to be stewards of them, not only that but also to effectively utilize them for our benefits”,

He stressed the need for Ghanaians to desist from corrupt practices and activities that fueled the abuse of the environment.

“we need to re- examine what we do on daily basis and begin to be more sensitive to our roles in keeping the environment safe and sustainable”,  Mr. Zitor indicated.

He pointed out that the issues of illegal mining, deforestation, improper disposal of waste, pollution of water bodies among others, were seriously creating environmental challenges, which needed collective efforts to address.

He said Ghana needed to take stringent actions to tackle climate change through robust environmental governance.

Covid-19.

The Regional Director advised parents and guardians to educate their children to be wary of the dangers associated with used PPEs that are disposed off indiscriminately.

He said used PPEs such as hand gloves and nose masks should be disposed off properly into a dustin to avoid children from touching them.

Mr. Zitor encouraged the people of Savannah Region and Ghana at large to continue observing the protocols of covid-19 as in wearing of nose masks, regularly washing of hands with soap under running water among others.

The Regional Director was accompanied by the Bole District Director, Mr Ebo Koomson and his staff.
