National Vagla Students and Associate’s (VASA) Holds Fifth Biennial Congress in Bole.

The Vagla Students Association which is made of Vagla, Safalba, Choriba, and Norme tribe in Ghana has today Wednesday, December 30, held their biennial congress in Bole on the theme: sustaining the Vagla language and our cultural heritage; the role of the Vagla Students.

The aim of the association is to bring these students together to building a stronger bond to promote the cultural values of the tribe in Ghana.

Various speakers who spoke at the congress reiterated the need for students to maintain the cultural heritage of the Vagla tribe.

Speaking at the congress, Mr Emmanuel Addai, the originator of Vagla literacy lamented how the young ones speak the language and encouraged them to read the language

Mr Domyirimbe Yori Ussif added that the Vagla tribe has a history and unless one knows the history one cannot appreciate the culture.

He gave some historical background of the Vagla people to the students to appreciate the culture of Vagla tribe.

Address the gathering, the Member of Parliament for Bole -Bamboi Constituency and the Guest of Honour for the occasion said it is regrettable to see a typical Vagla man these days bearing names that are unknown to them.

He said the harm has already being caused but encouraged the young to correct it by bearing local names to show their true Identity.

Reading a speech on behalf of the MP for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency Hon. Chiwitey Dari Andrew, Mr Maalyong Thomas said that the MP was grateful to his constituents for renewing his mandate for the second time as the Constituency Lawmaker.

He urged the students front to be united in all their activities.

Mr Banasco Seidu Nuhu, another speaker also indicated that we are only patronising the foreign religion because of how they brand it

He therefore encouraged those in the traditional front of the Vagla tribe to rebrand the tradition to be attractive to the youth .

Mr Shaibu Slyvester the President of VASA called for unity among all Vagla communities.

He said without unity the development that Vaglas seek for their various communities cannot be attained.

A lot of prominent personalities including the Bolewura Representative, Assembly Members, the President for Bole District VAYA rep among others graced the biennial congress of VASA.
