The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, together with the Savannah Regional Directorate and supported by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Branch of the Ghana National Fire Service, has organised a sensitisation programme for residents of the Yipala community on bush burning and disaster prevention.

The programme, held on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, aimed at educating the community on the dangers of bush burning, its impact on lives, property, farmlands and the environment, as well as measures to prevent and manage fire outbreaks.

The exercise was led by the Savannah Regional NADMO Director, Hon. Mahama Zakaria, and the District Director, Hon. Joseph Nujaal. Speaker after speaker, stressed on the importance of disaster prevention and encouraged residents to take responsibility in mitigating both natural and man-made disasters through vigilance and safe practices.

Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service also educated the community on fire safety and the need to report fire incidents early.

Victims of earlier bush fire incidents in the community were supported with some relief items as part of the engagement, reaffirming NADMO’s commitment to disaster prevention and response.
