The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sawla–Tuna–Kalba, Hon. Sinkina Saaka, has called on residents to work together to build prosperity and restore hope in the District and the country at large.

Delivering a speech during the 69th Independence Day celebration held at the Sawla JHS Park, Hon. Saaka said the national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” should inspire citizens to contribute actively to Ghana’s development.

According to him, Independence Day is a moment for Ghanaians to reflect on the sacrifices of the country’s forefathers who fought for freedom and to renew their commitment to national unity, patriotism, and progress.

Hon. Saaka noted that building prosperity involves creating opportunities for the youth, supporting farmers to receive fair value for their produce, empowering women to expand their businesses, and improving infrastructure such as roads, water systems, schools, and health facilities.

He urged citizens to move from being consumers to producers and to support government policies aimed at resetting Ghana’s economy.

The DCE also emphasized that restoring hope means empowering young people with skills and education, strengthening community bonds, and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

He highlighted several government initiatives under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, including efforts to stabilize the economy, improve educational infrastructure, strengthen healthcare systems, modernize agriculture, and support small and medium enterprises.

Touching on education, Hon. Saaka said the District Assembly remains committed to improving access to quality education despite financial pressures caused by the Gbiniviri conflict, which continues to require security and emergency resources.

He disclosed that the Assembly is currently undertaking several projects including the construction of three-unit classroom blocks at Jilinkon, Yipala, and St. Philip Primary School in Gindabour.

Other projects awaiting contract awards include the construction of classroom blocks at Blema, Gindabour Kindergarten, and Sanyeri, as well as the rehabilitation of a six-unit classroom block at Sawla Senior High School.

He added that efforts are underway to expand the School Feeding Programme to more schools in the district to improve attendance and learning outcomes.

Hon. Saaka also announced that two students from the Sawla–Tuna–Kalba District have been selected to receive the Presidential Award for Best BECE Candidates, describing the achievement as a reflection of the hard work of teachers, parents, and students.

He commended traditional authorities, security services, teachers, and students for their roles in maintaining peace and contributing to the success of the Independence Day celebration.

The DCE concluded by encouraging school children to take pride in their heritage and strive for excellence, reminding them that they are the future leaders of Ghana.
