The Member of the Council of State representing Savannah Region, H.E. Alhaji Abudu Sampson, has on Wednesday February 12, 2026 officialy launched a campaign against drug abuse and environmental degradation in the region, at Bole SHS.

Delivering a welcome address by Mr. Abubakari Habib, the Assistant Headmaster of Administration of Bole SHS on behalf of the Headmaster, expressed profound gratitude to the Council of State Member for selecting the school to begin the student engagement in the Savannah region.

Mr. Habib noted that the theme, “Drug Abuse and Environmental Protection and Hygiene,” as timely to the future of the youth.

The assistant Headmaster urge the students to listen attentively, participate actively, and take the program seriously.

Speaking at the official launch, H.E Alhaji Abudu Sampson, noted that Today’s event is therefore more than a school gathering—it marks the official launch of a region-wide engagement initiative across the Savannah Region, starting from this historic institution.

The Council of State Member, mentioned that one of the most pressing challenges confronting young people today is drug abuse.

It rarely begins dramatically. Often, it starts with curiosity, peer pressure, stress, or the mistaken belief that drugs enhance confidence or academic performance. Sadly, what begins as experimentation can quickly spiral into dependency and addiction.

“I urge you: say NO to drugs and YES to your future”.

Drug abuse destroys potential and it undermines your health, weakens academic performance, strains relationships, and limits future opportunities. In many cases, it leads to mental health challenges, criminal behaviour, violence, and even loss of life.

No region, no nation, can achieve sustainable development if its youth – the engine of progress – are trapped in substance abuse.

Choose friends who uplift you and
seek counsel when you feel pressured.
Confide in your teachers, counsellors, and trusted elders when faced with difficult decisions, strength lies not in experimentation, but in self-control.

Tingawura Abudu Sampson, touching on environmental protection added that poor sanitation, indiscriminate waste disposal, open defecation, and environmental pollution contribute to preventable diseases that burden families and communities.

A polluted environment reflects neglect a clean environment reflects discipline and pride.
Environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of government rather it is a collective duty.

“When we protect our environment today, we protect our health tomorrow and we also preserve the future for generations yet unborn”.

Be ambassadors of positive change, protect your bodies from harmful substances, protect the environment from degradationand also protect your dreams through focus, discipline, and purpose.
