Prosecution in a case involving seven
persons provisionally charged with the murder of Akua Denteh, from Kafaba in the East Gonja District of the Savannah have further been remanded into police custody by the Bole Magistrate Court.
His Worship Prince Cudjoe presiding over the case told the court today August 20, 2020, that the docket will be sent to the Attorney-General’s Department in Tamale for advice.
The case has been adjourned pending the outcome from the Attorney-General’s Department and the suspects are to reappear before the court on Friday, September 18, 2020.
The accused persons are Haruna Aness, 34, Issifa Tanko, 35, Shaibu Muntala, 29, Sulemana Ali, 35, Issifa Zakyibo ,32, Latifa Bumaye, 25, and Hajia Serena, 40.
The prosecutor told the court that seven others are at large which the police are investigating to get them arrested.
Explaining the court proceedings to Yagbon news, Chief State Attorney in charge of the Northern Region, Salia Abdul Kudus said the case which was on three separate charged sheets has been consolidated into one charged sheet.
The Chief State Attorney urged the residents of the Region to exercise restraint as the law court will expedite action on the case which he describes as dehumanizing.
Akua Denteh, a 90 years old woman was lynched after she was declared a witch by a self styled priestess Hajia Serena, at Kafaba which has thrown the entire country into shock and pain.
