More than 200 hernia patients in the Wa – West District in the Upper West Region are to benefit from free surgical treatment this week.

The procedure will be carried out by a team of Ghanaian doctors, including a team from Keva medical foundation , Care medical laboratory and Marvelous medical laboratory.

The Executive Director of Frontier Mission Network,a Sunyani based NGO ,which is organising the operation, has designated the Wechiaw hospital for the minor operation.

Ghana is said to have a backlog of more than one million hernia cases unattended to, with a surgical rate of 30 cases per every 100,000 cases, considered by health professionals as inadequate.

Frontier Mission Network under the auspices of Dr Moses Sansa Kojon ,is an independent not-for-profit organisation that provides social, health and educational support services to the underprivileged in our communities.

The first surgical procedures conducted was in 2024 at the Sawla District hospital where about 150 patients were operated upon, “We realised that people were really benefiting and so we decided to replicate it in 2025, the attendance was so overwhelming.” he told Yagbon News.

He said the team operated conditions such as hernias, hydroceles, uterine fibroids, lipomas among others, and disclosed that “So far we have been able to touch the lives of about 150 patients from 2024.

The operation is set to start from Friday 21, to Tuesday 25, February 2025.
