Mr Zakaria Abdul Kassim, District Director of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Health Directorate has encouraged residents of the District to take the Covid-19 vaccines when it is roll out in the District.
He said the vaccines would protect the people from the virus and it was important for the residents to receive the shots.
During an emergency meeting, held on March 04, 202, by the District Health Directorate on the formation of a risk communication team on epidemics preparedness such as covid-19, Ebola and cerebro-spinal miningitis ( CSM), the District Director of the Health Directorate Mr Zakaria Abdul Kassim, urged the residents to disregard the misconceptions that the Covid-19 vaccine was unsafe.
He said the vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the government was safe and urged them to get vaccinated when the team visited their respective communities.
The District Director said while they wait for their turn, it was important to observe the recommended safety protocols such as social distancing, washing and sanitizing of hands as well as wearing of nose masks.
This, he said, would complement the government efforts to effectively fight the spread of the virus and put life back to normal.
The risk communication team is a ten member committee mandated to educate the public on diseases that affects the District and Ghana at large.
The team is made up the District Director of health, NCCE Director, NADMO Director, District Vertinary Officer, the District Police Commander, a representative from Ghana Education Service, District Disease Control Officer, District Health Promotion Officer and the media with the mandate of meeting once in a month to review issues related to health in the District.
