The Bole D/A Girls Model JHS in the Bole District of the Savannah Region is soliciting the support of the government, philanthropists, NGOs and other public-spirited Ghanaians to assist the school with a computer laboratory.
The Headmistress of the School, Madam Mwanyuu Gloria, who made this known at the school’s first Speech and Prize-giving Day on August 11, 2022, said the lack of computer laboratory in the school has hindered the effective teaching of ICT as a subject and made the subject very difficult for pupils to develop and sustain their interest in it.
She said ICT moves the world and it was imperative that pupils at the basic level received proper ICT lessons to enable them to contribute significantly to the development of the nation.
The theme for the occasion was, “Perseverance, the root to success ”
Other challenges.
Among other challenges the school was confronted with, Madan Gloria said, was lack of proper documentation of the school land and therefore appealed to the Bole Traditional Council to help them get their school land appropriately documented to avoid issues of land litigations in the future.
In addition, she said feeding the students has been a challenge though the DCE had placed the school under the school feeding project, the headmistress said meals are not served frequently to the students.
She said the school was established in 2012 as the only Girls model school in the Bole District.
According to her the school hundred percent BECE pass on two occasions, thus 2019 and 2020, and was placed as the third best performed school in 2019 District BECE results league table.
Mr Jamani Bakari, who chaired the occasion said education had over the years proven to be a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and reducing inequalities among people.
He called on school children to develop the habit of reading to help broaden their knowledge and horizons.
Speaking on behalf of the District Chief Executive, Mr John Osman Mahama counselled the students to take their studies seriously.
According to him education is the only tool that help improve the living conditions of an individual and hence urged the students to study hard to achieve their positive goals in life.
During the celebration, the children enacted a play entitled, “Had I known is always at last ” in which they asked all students to take up their studies seriously.
The students thrilled the crowd with beautiful performances from poetry recitals, dance choreography to drama among others.
Some students were awarded for their outstanding performance in the various programmes of studies.
