Global Communities marks world toilet day at Mandari.

Global Communities as part of the celebration of this year’s world toilet day has organized a quiz competition among basic schools in the Mandari circuit of the Bole District.

The world toilet day is a day set aside by the United Nation on every 19th November which Global Communities, a water and sanitation Non-Governmental Organization celebrated in Mandari with a quiz competition on sanitation related issues.

The 2022 edition of the day is under the theme “under ground water, making the invisible visible”.

In a short address at the event, Northern sector co-ordinator, Mr Dominic Dapaah said world toilet day is celebrated every year to creat awareness on house hold laterine.

He said lack of household latrines affect all aspect of life and hence entreats the chiefs and people of Mandari to build household laterines.

He mentioned Mandari as a community has benefit from one of their key mandate which is the Mandari town water system .

But was sad to say that Mandari will lose a lot of opportunities if they don’t make their community an ODF. He sited an instant where the US ambassador and USAID Director couldn’t visit Mandari as a result not certify as ODF.

He urged them to work at it as it will attract a lot of opportunities to the community.

Speaking on behalf of Bole District Assembly, the deputy Coordinating Director, Mr Mr Mahama John Osman said they were grateful to Global Communities for their support over the years.

He said the Assembly as part of government policy will not build community toilet and that every citizens must own a household laterine.

He said the day was set aside by UN in 2013 to remind citizens of the importance of household latrine and urged citizens to take opportunity of the day to deal with open defecation.

Mr John Osman on behalf of the District Chief Executive thanked Global Communities for their support in developing water and sanitation in the area.

Chief Kananpewura who spoke on behalf of Bolewura said citizens should take the matter seriously and said he feel at ease the very moment he owns a household latrine.

At the end the quiz competition Mandari D/A JHS emerged winners with 38 points and a received a set of books, 3 note books and three maths sets.

Bale Methodist JHS was second with 33 points and also received a set of books and three math sets.

Mandari E/A JHS was third with 31points and received half a set of books and three maths set.
