Major areas within the Bole township and parts of the District continue to be plunged into darkness every night due to dysfunctional street lights.

Streetlights particularly along the Bole- was highway and parts of some major roads in the Bole town have not been working for some time now.

The youth are therefore demanding that the street lights are fixed without delay.

These comments were made known on June 21, 2021, when the youth group” Concerned Youth of Bole” presented a petition to the Bole District Assembly on the urgent need to fix the faulty street lights and the deplorable speed ramps in the town especially on the highway.

Presenting the petition to the Bole District Assembly, Mr Abdul Rafiu Haruna, he convener, stated that the issue of faulty street lights and the bad nature of the speed ramps has lingered for some time now and the youth cannot wait any longer than to alert leadership of the Assembly on the need to have their concerns addressed.

According to him,due to the dyfunctional nature of the street lights, potholes- ridden roads have become potential death trap as well as fertile grounds for thievery and robbery among other security concerns on the road.

The convener indicated that due to the faulty street lights on the highway,a young man by name Abdul Fatawu on Tuesday night, June,15, 2021, painfully lost his life when he crashed into a parked car on the road due to the invisibility nature of the road.

He added that residents pay a charge for street lights maintenance any time one puechases prepaid credit and hence such funds be used to maintain the street lights now and forever.

He said their checks have revealed that an estimated amount of little 5000 Ghana cedis can fix the problem.

The youth also bemoaned the unmotorable nature of the speed ramps in the Bole town which they said have caused more havoc than their intended purpose of saving lives.

The converner furthered that, a couple of speed ramps in Bole township which are supposed to protect lives and regulate speeding vehicles and motors have become accident prone areas on the road.

Mr. Abdul Rafiu Haruna, stressed that they are petitioning the District Assembly for the sake of promoting community development and added they are not paid to embark on such mission neither are they interested in scoring cheap political points with the problem.

The youth group therefore urged the District Assembly to as matter of urgency fix the problem in two weeks time period or incur the wrath of the youth.

Madam Georgina Tumbakorah, the District Coordinating Director received the petition on behalf of the Assembly and said it will be relayed to the the Head of the Assembly.

The Concerned Youth, also gave Bolewura Sarfo Kutugefeso (l), a copy of the petition.
