Australian High Commission donates to Mole National Park.

Mole National Park under the wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission of Ghana, on Friday, 9th April 2021, received technological equipment from the Australian High Commission to enhance in the operations of their work at the Park.

The items donated includes; 20 GPS, 30 camera traps 4G network, 2 desktop computers with 1 photocopier and 2 summer hats.

Speaking to Yagbon radio, manager for Mole National Park Mr Ali Mahama expressed his satisfaction for that kind gesture done by the Australian High Commission to them which said is a sign of good relationship between a Government of Ghana and that of the Australian Government.

He said the camera traps will help them to identify the number of species that are within the wildlife.

Addressing a gathering after the donation, the Executive Director for Wildlife Division Mr. Benard Asamoah Boateng said more of such assistances are needed to be able to maintain the integrity of the park.

He said since the park was established in 1958, it has always being the most attractive centre for tourists in the country.

He said currently the park is on the list of UNESCO to be adapted as a Heritage Centre in the world after a wildlife census.

The chief executive officer for forestry commission Ghana Mr John Allotey said they need this assistance from the Australian Government to be able to maintain the integrity of the wild reserve

They also Retreat that they should help in fast attracking the centre to be adapted as a UNESCO Heritage Centre

He also appealed to the Australian High Commission to build Australian sister city between Australian and Ghana to be able to monitor in relation to matters of wildlife reserve .

The Australian High commissioner to Ghana H.E Gregory Andrew said the staff of Mole National Park is doing very fantastic and need commendation.

H.E Gregory said it has become necessary for them to offer this  assistance because Ghana and Australia share a lot of thing in common especially Ecological species and has hard a long standing relationship .

He however express his dismay on the level of reduction of wildlife species in the last ten year especially Elephant species. He said the park should do all they can to return lions to the park

Ghana wildlife division has a protective area of 1,34,7600 hectares or 5.6 percent of Ghana landed area,  Two zoo’s one in Kumasi and the other in Accra.

It has have a protective network area that include seven national parks, Six resource reserve, two wildlife sanctuaries, and one trip natural resource, 5 hostel Lands.

The Mole National park is located at Mole close to the Savannah Regional capital, Damongo, was established in 1958 as a forest reserve and was gazetted as a National Park in 1971 and it has a land area of 4,840 square km.
