The Chiefs and elders of Mankpan in the Central Gonja District of Savannah Region has on Sunday, February 28, 2021, performed an ancestral sacrifice to appease the gods of the land on the recent spate of accidents along the Gbuipe- Mile 40 stretch of the Gbuipe- Fufulso Highway.

The event led by the Chief of Mankpan Jakpa Achor Ade Borenyi I, animals were slaughtered to awake the spirits of the ancestors and deities to prevent the occurrence of road accidents in the traditional area.

The ceremony took place at Serjikura in the Mankpan Traditional Area at a spot where an accident claimed 18 lives leaving 40 others injured on February 2,2021 with 3 additional lives lost in a different accident within two weeks.

Addressing the media, Mankpanwura Jakpa said the accidents in the area are so alarming not for the people of Central Gonja District or Savannah Region alone but the entire nation as the stretch is a major road with international patronage and hence we need to act swiftly to avert any further occurrence of such calamities by appeasing the gods with sacrifices.

The chief indicated that society is very complex and every life is important and must be protected which therefore calls for the pacifications and cleansing of the traditional area in the wake of high number of accidents cases in the area.

He called on all stakeholders especially the Ghana High Authority to assist in reducing the accidents by constructing three speed ramps on the street.

The chief said that the sacrifices are cultural prayers by their forefathers and he believes that such prayers will help minimize the road carnage within the traditional area.
