The first phase of the registration exercise being carried out by the Electoral Commission (EC) to register eligible Ghanaians for the 2020 general elections has ended successfully in the Bole- Bamboi constituency.

The exercise, though marked by some few challenges at the beginning, has been largely successful.

The commission, as of Sunday July 5, 2020, had registered over 6,000 eligible people.

Speaking to Yagbon Radio”Tea cup” show host Abdul Fatawu Diwura on Tuesday July 7, the Bole District Director of the commission, Isaac Gyeduah said the EC surmounted the challenges it faced at the beginning of the exercise, which accounted for the success chalked so far.

He said the commission exceeded its target of registering 100 people a day, explaining that some centres registered as many as 120 and 140 people per day.

Mr Gyeduah attributed this to the robustness and effectiveness of the Biometric Voter Registration Kits.

COVID-19 protocols

The District Director of the Commission entreats all potential registrants to adhere to the safety health protocols of the covid-19 pandemic.

“Make sure you wear a nose mask before you get to any registration centre”, he advised.

Mr. Gyeduah noted that, the virus cannot be defeated individually but a collective concerted responsibility is required to fight the virus and therefore advised all potential registrants to obey the COVID-19 safety protocols in all registration centres.
