The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole- Bamboi, Constituency has lamented that the losses by some incumbent MPs in the Saturday primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be a heavy blow to the Parliament of Ghana.

Hon. Yussif said the 40 MPs who lost in the primaries would affect the works of Parliament because the House needs experienced members to function effectively.

Speaking to Yagbon News in an interview on Tuesday the MP said the outcome will affect the work of Parliament because most of those that lost in the primaries chairs a committee in Parliament and that will greatly affect our works, the MP noted.

Hon. Yussif added that “Parliament as an arm of government works for the nation and not for NPP or NDC and hence it is a be worry to loose experienced lawmakers more importantly as most of them chairs various committee’s in the House”.

“When they even come to work, the morale will not be there for them to execute their duties effectively because they know they will soon exit and hence they will feel reluctant “, he added.

Asked whether some MPs who went unopposed would have lost their seats in the primaries if they were not protected, the deputy ranking member of Trades and Industry committee said it would have been a disaster to the NPP government and Parliament as well if some of their incumbent MPs seats were not protected.

The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has equally expressed worry of Parliament losing incumbent MPs which he also said it will affect businesses of Parliament.

Among some MPs who lost their candidature are Dr Mark Asibey Yeboah, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, the Chairman of the Communications Committee, Ben Banda Abdallah, the Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Collins Owusu Amankwaah, the Chairman of the Government Assurances Committee, William Quaittoo Agyapong, the Chairman of the Education Committee, and Alex Agyekum, the Chairman of the Youth Sports Committee, Kofi Ada, Minister of Aviation and MP for Navrango Central among others.
