A concerned youth of Sawla by name Mr Kaka A.Sakara has accused the governing NDC party in the District of abandoning an astro turf project that was started during the erstwhile Akufo Addo administration.
According to him,the abandoned astro turf project initiated by New Patriotic Party (NPP) government through the SOCCO Projects has become a painful reminder of how development projects can lose their purpose when they are left unfinished.
“What was conceived as an investment in sports, youth development, talent discovery and community development now stands incomplete depriving young people of a facility that could significantly contribute to their future,”he added in his statement.
The astro turf was not merely a construction project.
It was a vision for the youth by the NPP government.
It was intended to provide a safe and modern environment where young people could develop their football talents, maintain healthy lifestyles, participate in organised sporting activities and compete at various levels.
For communities where football is one of the most popular avenues for youth engagement, the completion of such a facility can make a tremendous difference.

Recently the inter-district sports competition for Savannah Region was hosted in Sawla under very bad and troubling football fields, which this abandoned field would have served a very important purpose and adding value to our sports in the district and region as a whole,he added.
Unfortunately, years after the project was initiated, the facility remains abandoned. The sight of an incomplete sports project is not only disappointing; it raises serious questions about the commitment of stakeholders to completing projects that directly affect the lives and aspirations of youth in Sawla Tuna Kalba District.
Public infrastructure is built with the expectation that it will serve the people.
When a project is started and subsequently abandoned, the resources already invested risk becoming wasted. Construction materials deteriorate, structures become exposed to weather and vandalism, and the eventual cost of completing the project may increase considerably. The abandoned astro turf therefore deserves urgent attention,Mr Sakara bemoaned.
