The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE)has organized an inter-party dialogue in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah region on Tuesday, 17 September, 2024.

The program was made possible with support from the EU’s “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE)” initiative to promote unity and ensure a peaceful electoral process ahead of the 2024 December elections.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting, the NCCE Director for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Mr. Losina Issahaku, said the purpose of the meeting is to bring all stakeholders together for them to see the way forward to forstall any conflict that will come ahead of the 2024 general election.

The Director mentioned that, the Inter- Party Committee Dialogue has been in place since 2011 for them to always jaw-jaw and see to it that when there are problems they solve them so that it will not result into violence in this election year.

“I think this is the reason why we invited all political parties, the police Commander, traditional leaders, youth groups, PWD’s and the Media for us to come together and understand each other that we will not resort to violence in this year elections” he said.

He noted again that the NCCE’s four (4) key pillars that are driving civic engagements for the 2024 general elections include misinformation (fake news), religious and ethnic tolerance, money in politics (vote buying), and election violence.

So i therefore, entreat all citizens to promote peace in all endeavors and urge electorates not sell their votes for money, he stressed.

Mr. Losina, added that the NCCE theme for this year’s elections is “Get Involve Ghana Is For All Of Us”.

The police Commander for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, DSP. Attibu Lambert, urged citizens to embrace peace and unity and also adopt to acts of seeking forgiveness when one commits a wrong against the other.

The Commander also assured that the police are available for all and will do everything within the remit of the Constitution to protect lives and properties.

Garba Boajibitowura Iddisah speaking on behalf of Sawlawura at the meeting caution all the political parties to campaign on issues devoid of insults adding that we are one people therefore we should live in peace during, before and after the election.
