Deng also k own as Rabbit hunting Festival in the Bole District of Savannah Region is celebrated with the call on residence to harness its resources for development

Deng which means (play) is a festival initiated by the Indigenous settlers of the Gonja traditional area included vagla, Safalba and the Normei .

According to history the aforementioned ethnic group usually converge at Dagbigu to pacify a deity call Kaafu.

Upon the intelligence of some invaders, the then Mandari Safalnaa lead the indigenous tradition chiefs to pray for protection but were rather directed by Kaafu to pray to sonyo kipo in Sonyo

The chief then prayed that if they are successful they will come organize a “(DENG) PLAY”to say thank you.

As part part of the 2025 celebration a Durber of chiefs and people of the aforementioned was organized by the Vagla Youth Association (VAYA) and Vascan

In a welcome address by the elders of Sonyo Mr David kpuori plead with Government to consider the construction road from Bole to sonyo if possible to Kurpe

Among other plea also include a small town water system for Sonyo community and its environs to derive socia-economic activities

They express their satisfaction over the introduction of the Deng Durber by VAYA not only by euphoria but also honoring the true value of the festival.

Addressing the chiefs and people of the Vagla and Normei community the DCE for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district Hon sinkinaa Saaka said the festival must go beyond social Cohesion

Adding that the in this 21st century festivals are to drive development and not only for social Cohesion

The kings man of the opinion that celebration of this nature should be an avenue to raise funds for developmental projects in the Vagla communities including water furniture for schools and youth empowerment among others.

The president of VAYA Mr Jacob Kuubu Ahia narrated the brief history of the by admonishing the youth embrace it because it a very good legacy by their forefathers

Speaking on the theme ‘Harnessing the potential the role of Deng Festival’ Mr Jacob said the youth needs jobs and that can be possible with technical and vocational education

He called on the government to consider developing TVET area to drive socio economic development of the youth

The president also call on settlers to respect the tradition and customs of the area.

The president lament how Fulbe settlers flaunt the orders of the land owner and go into their bushes and pick dawadawa and shea nut this attitude he said will not be accepted..

 

He said there is always a curfew to allow the fruits to properly mature and drop adding that they here stay and so must go by the rules of engagement

Speaking on behalf of the president of the Republic of Ghana the MP for Bole Bamboi Hon yussif Sulemana said the president sends his regards.

According the deputy of land and natural resources the president is aware of their road, mobile network and water situation and are all in the pipeline

The MP evidently said the roads minister upon instructions of the president has visited the area and very soon will be awarded on construct for a tile road.

He also said the president has also instructed the minister for communication to fix the mobile communication network situation in Sonyo

The MP said on his behalf and on behalf of the president they are grateful to the people of Sonyo for their prayer.

 

success in the 2024 election election will not be possible without their prayer for that matter he doesn’t take that for granted
