18 persons dead after a grisly road crash on Buipe- Tamale highway.

Eighteen (18) persons are reported dead following a head on collision between two Yutong buses with registration numbers GT3345- 16 and AC 1699-20 on the Buipe- Tamale highway in the Central Gonja District on Wednesday dawn,  February 3, 2021.

According to the Savannah Regional police command acting PRO, Inspector Adjekum Owusu, On Wednesday February 3, 2021, at about 00:12 hours suspect drivers yet to be identified were in charge of Yutong buses with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 with about 45 persons on board each of the vehicles traveling from Kumasi to Zebila and from Garu to Kumasi.

On reaching Sarekyekura near Fufulso on the Buipe – Tamale Highway the two vehicles collided head on and 18 persons made up of 13 male adults, 4 female adults and 1 female child died on the spot, he told Yagbon News.

According to him forty – five persons on board the two vehicles sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to Buipe Polyclinic and Holistic Medicare Hospital, for treatment. He added that efforts are being made to tow the accident vehicles to the station and trace both suspect drivers to assist in investigation.

Meanwhile the deceased persons have been conveyed to Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation awaiting identification and autopsy, he indicated.
