Mr Sobaltey Edmund, the President of the Yarkoi-Mekaa Youth Association (YEMYA), a youth-based advocacy group, has urged young people to turn their exuberant energies towards their communities development.
“We seek accountability, equality and fairness towards good governance and young people can play an effective role towards this quest, if the atmosphere is conducive enough,” he said this at Yagbon radio in an interview as part of preparations towards their annual event scheduled on April 1, 2023.
Mr Edmund said communities had a lot of young people with productive ideas and skills crucial to community growth and asked them to get involved.
He said the YEMYA sought to contribute towards the community that harnessed the skills of young people towards community development, and empowered them through the effective use of their talents.
He said that the association was working on a major action plan towards the community socio-economic improvement.
“For the past two years,the association has been able to furnished a teacher’s banglow with television sets and solar panels to enable teachers stay in the community,secured over 200 exercise books for all pupils, lobbying for 50 dual desks for the community school”, he said.
He added that, the association has also been able to employ the services of two community teachers to help improve upon teaching and learning.
According to him YEMYA would also engage in extensive education of the youth on their effective participation to ensure good governance and socio-economic growth.
He said that government must not be seen as the sole agent of development but that the citizens must cultivate the spirit of self-help to move the nation forward.
