The Circuit Sports Organizer for the Makumah Circuit of the Bole District Education Directorate, Mr Osman Issahaku aka Champion has raised eye brows about the loud silence of authorities concerning the ban on students taking part in sporting activities in schools due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
The President, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo- Addo since allowing schools to be re-opened following the closure has instructed school authorities not to allow sporting activities in schools.
However, following the easing of restrictions announced by the president many sporting disciplines are now allowed to take place but not school sports.
This, Champion said is detrimental to the holistic development of the child.
Speaking to Zakaria Tumeto Alidu Head of Yagbon Radio Sports desk, Champion lamented that many children would have their dreams dashed if the ban on sporting activities in schools is not lifted as soon as possible.
He said:”A lot of students all over the country dream of one day taking part in one sporting activity or the other at the highest level but if these ambitious would-be athletes are not allowed to exhibit thier talents how would they be nurtured?”
Champion, who sounded a frustrated person told Zakaria that his circuit was on the verge of organising the best ever Inter-school sports competition in Northern Ghana if not the whole nation but for the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions to be imposed by the president making it impossible.
He indicated that it was his hope that the government’s COVID-19 team would listen to the cry of the children and thier masters and advised the president accordingly to do the needful by lifting the ban on school sports.
