Assembly Members of the Wa West District have voted to confirm madam Vida Diorotey as District Chief Executive (DCE).

She got 30 Yes votes out of the total 41 members present and voting in an election conducted by the Electoral Commission.

10 members however voted No with 1 ballot paper been rejected.

Bukari Ali, the President Akufo–Addo’s nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position for Wa West District, was replaced by madam Diorotey Vida .

This was after Bukari was reappointed by the President failed in his second time to secure the two-thirds majority to confirm him for his position as the DCE.

Out of 40 Assembly Members present and voting, Bukari polled 22 “YES” votes representing 55 percent with 17 “NO” votes representing 42.5 percent and one rejected ballot, representing 2.5 percent.

With this score, he was expected to go for his third time confirmation exercise within 10–days as stipulated by law, but his journey was made short to him after a letter from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, dated October 27, 2021 announced the nomination of Diorotey Vida as District Chief Executive for Wa West.

“His Excellency, the President in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and section 20(1) of the Local Government Act, Act 936 (as amended), has nominated DIOROTEY VIDA as the District Chief Executive for Wa West District Assembly in the Upper West Region”, the letter contained.
