People Of Buipe Celebrate Damba Festival.

The Chiefs and people of Buipe in the Central Gonja District of Savannah Region on Saturday, November 21, 2020, celebrated their annual Damba festival amidst drumming and traditional dancing.

In a speech read by Dr. Ahmed Jinapor on behalf of the Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, expressed joy about the success and peaceful celebration of the event which showcased the tradition and custom of Gonjaland attracting people from all walks of life who danced to melodious traditional music.

The chief also seized the opportunity to eulogized the late President of the Republic of Ghana Jerry John Rawlings as he described him as a friend of the Northern Region.

According to him all the massive developmental projects that the people of the Northern Region are currently enjoying were delivered under the auspices of the late President Jerry John Rawlings.

 

He added that Rawlings projected the use of Northern smock by making it his official attire during his days as the leader of the country and using it on important occasions including the visit of the former President of USA Bill Clinton and his wife Hilary Clinton to Ghana.

“This year is an election year and it’s nothing more than us expression our constitutional rights in electing our leaders”, the Chief noted.

Buipewura also congratulated the Yagbonwura on his celebration of his 10th anniversary as the King of the Gonja Kingdom.

Speaking at the occasion, Savannah Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Salaga South constituency, Hon. Salifu Adam Braimah expressed delight the decision taken by the Gonja Traditional Council in solving their chieftaincy problems and coming together to chart a new path for rapid development of the Region.

He however pleaded with Buipewura to use his influence as a member of the Yagbonwura committee of Eminence of Chiefs to resolve other Chieftaincy disputes in the Region to propel its growth.

Hon. Salifu assured the people of the Savannah Region that the police will work deligently to maintain peace in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The Member of Parliament for the area (Yapei-Kusawgu) constituency, Hon. John Jinapor at the event urged political actors in the constituency to run their campaign activities devoid of electoral violence as the country gears towards the December 7, polls.

On his part, Hon. Mustapha Mahama, DCE for Central Gonja praised Buipewura for his dynamic leadership style shown since he became the Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area.

He added that the Chief has been supportive to the execution of developmental projects in the area.

The annual festival brought together various sub-chiefs, traditional rulers, politicians and opinion leaders dressed in beautiful smocks symbolic of the culture of the people.
