A heavy rainstorm has caused significant damage in Konkrompe, a community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Savannah Region, ripping off the roofs of several buildings, including the Konkrompe Basic School.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on April 16, 2025, following a drizzle that was accompanied by a powerful and destructive storm.

The storm also displaced hundreds of families, forcing them to seek refuge in neighboring communities. Anboon Luke Lebaduoro ,the Assemblyman for the Konkrompe Electoral Area, described the damage as overwhelming.

“About 13 houses, including a chapel and a school, have been completely wiped out.

Many families are now sleeping in overcrowded spaces with neighbors, which is difficult given the large family sizes,” he explained.

He called on the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and philanthropists to provide immediate relief.

“The level of destruction is enormous, and we need urgent assistance to rebuild lives.

We appeal to the government and well-meaning individuals to help us recover from this disaster,” he urged.

As the community struggle to rebuild, the urgent need for shelter, food, and support for displaced pupils remains a top priority

Members of the communities are therefore asking for support to help rebuild their lives.
