Mr Kunsaari Alim Enbong, Assembly Member for Chache Electoral Area in the Bole District has secured a sponsorship package of Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis from MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Pretoria to enroll the youth in the area more particularly young girls into skills development training programme.

The beneficiaries according to the first term Assemblyman will cover young mothers, school drop outs and underprivileged girls.

The program is dubbed “Sunbaalaa Skill Training” project.

They will be given a training in weaving free of charge with machines and accessories provided.

Mr. Kunsaari told Yagbon News that the initiative was conceived about a three years ago (2021), but was delayed due to some challenges.

The signing of the agreement and passing out fees would also be catered by the project.

Mr. Kunsaari encouraged the youth, who could not pursue higher education, not to be disillusioned, but rather take advantage of the programme and acquire skills for their livelihood.

He said without artisans no country could develop, adding “imagine how the world will be if we all work in the offices, the banks and the security services and there are no artisans.

“The beautiful buildings we see, the clothes we wear, the chairs and tables in our rooms, if there is water and electricity in our homes and a good metal gate, they are all because of artisans.”

He advised beneficiaries to be self-confident and not to be discouraged by the saying that “it is those who are not academically brilliant that learn trades.”

He noted that youth development “is very key in my development agenda for the area”, and promised to do more to resource the youth to be good and independent entrepreneurs to secure their livelihoods.

The Assemblyman said he was determined to create the enabling environment for the youth and the unemployed to generate employment.

Mr. Kunsaari said increasing investment in young people was the key to development.

This, he said, includes promoting quality vocational education that prepares them for the future.

He said that empowerment of the youth with education and skill training was key to the economic development of the country.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is scholarship program that support brilliant but economically disadvantaged African students and the Assembly member is a beneficiary of this program while in KNUST and now in the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
