The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region has appealed to the government to create one more District out of the existing one to make administration effective and easy.
The Chief made the appeal when President Akufo Addo paid a courtesy call on him at his palace on Sunday July 11, 2021, as part of his two- day working visit in the Savannah Region.
According to him, the vastness of the District was making it difficult for effective administration.
He is optimistic that carving a District from the Central Gonja District would promote citizens participation in governance and development.
It would also ensure political equity and rapid socio-economic development.
Reading a speech on behalf of the Paramount Chief, Chief RA Adam stated the Central Gonja District has an approximately land size of 7,555km squared making it the largest District in the Savannah, Northern and North- East regions.
He added that the District has an estimated population of 145,522 people with 265 communities and 5 traditional paramountcy’s and creating a District out of the existing one will hasten development in the area.
The chief added that a constituency should also be created out of the Yapei – Kusawgu constituency due to its vast size.
Reacting to the request of the Paramount Chief, President Akufo Addo acknowledged the need of creating Districts not only in the Central Gonja District but also among some Districts in the Savannah Region and added that the creation of constituencies doesn’t lie within his power but will get the Electoral Commission informed of the Chief plea.
The President however commissioned an 85-bed emergency, accident District Hospital, to serve the people in Buipe and the region at large.
The hospital, whose construction commenced in 2018, is one of six medical installations for which the Government secured an 80-million-Euro facility from Raiffeisen Bank of Austria.
