The Brifor -Lobi council of elders visited the Bolewura’s Palace in seek of an apology and forgiveness following the Gbiniyiri conflict on Saturday 11 October 2025

Speaking at the Palace, Mr. Thomas Bebeh Sennor, the Chairman for the Council of elders of the Lobi – Brifors for Sawla Tuna Kalba and Bole, seeks for peace following what happened in Gbiniyiri between Gonjas and the Brifors.

Speaking on behalf of the union as the chairman, he pleaded to the Paramount Chief of Bole Traditional area His Royal Majesty Bolewura Sarfo Kutugefeso (l) to temper justice with mercy and accept them back as his children despite what happened. He apologised.

He reiterated that, what happened in Gbiniyiri was unfortunate, and they knew that His Royal Majesty Bolewura is in pain and they were also in pain, but the king’s pain is more than theirs and that is the more reason why they came to their “Father” (the King) to apologise to him and to seek peace.

He further acknowledged that the conflict that happened has caused a lot more harm than good to us. He indicated that people lost their lives (both Gonjas and the Brifors), but they are all his children. He pleaded to His Royal Majesty Bolewura to forgive and accept them back to stay in his land for peace to prevail.

Mr. Thomas Bebeh further expressed that they pray and hope this will never happen in his traditional area again. He concluded his submission by saying that they would talk to themselves, the youths, and the Gonjaland Youth Association to come together to live harmoniously and peacefully.

His Royal Majesty Bolewura Sarfo Kutugefeso (l) responded to their apology and request by saying that, he the King and his sub chiefs are all happy now they came to seek for peace. His Royal Majesty Bolewura commenced his speech by giving them a brief history and flashback on what, where, when, and how the Lobi people entered into Gonjaland to seek for shelter.

The King said Gonjas are well known for their hospitality that is why his grandfather’s (Gonjas) warmly welcomed and accepted their grandfather’s (the Brifors) as they came to seek for shelter in their land.

Bolewura further explained that Gonjas and the Brifors lived together for a very long time without any form of discomfort or conflict, Bolewura also made it clear to them by saying that the land in question belongs to Gonjas and the land was given to them to stay, farm, support their families, and pay homage to the Gonja Chiefs as the custodians of the land, customs, and tradition, But moving forward, matters arises and issues start escalating.

His Royal Majesty Bolewura further expressed that, they all disturbed about what happened in Gbiniyiri and as the Paramount Chief of Bole Traditional area, the land starting from Bole, Damongo, Kusawgu, Tuluwe, Chaama, Kpembi, Wasipe, Kandia, Kong just to mention but a few, all belongs to the Overlord of Gonjaland Jira Yagbon wura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (l). Then, afterwards, the land was allocated to other Chiefs in Gonjaland to be in their custody.

According to the King, at this juncture, the best place for the Brifors to go and seek apology and acceptance is the Overlord His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura. So they should go back to the Overlord to seek his approval because he has the capacity.
