The Bole District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr Mohammed Shiraz-Deen, has called on Ghanaians to plant more trees to restore the country’s lost forests, repair the damaged ecosystems and mitigate climate change.

He said trees influenced everything “from our environment to our physical health,” adding that “Without trees to regulate and maintain the environment, there would be no life.”

The launch of tree planting dubbed Green Ghana Project which rolls out the planting of five million trees across Ghana, has began nationwide today June 11, 2021.

The District Manager of the Authority urged the citizenry of Bole to make a difference by planting and caring for trees in their homes and public spaces.

He disclosed that he and his staff were poised to join efforts at restoring the ecosystem by partnering with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources initiative to plant five million trees across the country.

To seal the partnership, sixty different species of plants were planted today at the office of the District Health Insurance Authority.

He told Yagbon News that sixty species of the seedlings which comprises mahogany, teak and cassia were received from the office of the Bole District Forestry Commission.

He indicated that he and his team were already engaged in afforestation long before the coming of the President vision of restoring the lost vegetation cover of the country and for that matter lauded the idea as he stated that the planted seedlings would be cared for to yield the necessary benefits.

“Today as we plant these seedlings to launch this project, I do so with a sense of humility and confidence that these trees will give us a lot of benefits as in the provision of shade, serving as windbreaks and we can even park our cars here”, he added.

Mr.Shiraz Deen,  highlighted the need to care for the environment and conserve nature and appealed to the citizenry to plant a tree where they live or work for the country to regain its lost vegetation cover.

He urged the people of Bole and its environs to support the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Initiative by planting trees to ensure the sustainability of the environment.
