The Member of Parliament for the Wa West constituency in the Upper West Region, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, has asked Brifors living in Ghana to champion the national crusade against ethnicity and other vices that seek to divide the rank and file of the Brifor fraternity.
According to him, Brifors must sow seeds of true divine love, unity, co-operation and mutual understanding among other people that they live with in the same area.
As a tribe, Hon. Peter further stated that, there is the need to learn to share ideas, views and experiences that would promote the socio-economic well-being of the area.
The MP was addressing hundreds of Brifors at Nyoli during the 46th biennial Congress of the Brifor Youth Association held on Sunday, May, 2, 2021, under the theme “Building strong intra and inter relations for peace and development,the role of the Brifor youth”.
He said love, unity and mutual understanding hold the key to effective planning and efficient implementation of development programmes that enhance progress of a nation.
The MP expressed the hope that, if Brifors cultivated these important natural qualities, their vision to transform their tribe socially, economically, spiritually, culturally and politically would be realized with little or no difficulty at all.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency in the Savannah Region praised the leadership of the youth association for organising such a colourful event which has brought all Brifors from far and near together.
Commenting on the theme, he noted that unity brings about strength, and that strength, when efficiently tapped, can facilitate development, and hence the need for the Brifor fraternity to stay united.
The MP noted, education, which is key to human and societal growth was however low in his constituency interms of number of teachers and classroom blocks in the area.
He thus appealed for more teachers to be posted to the area.
He said the lack of teachers in the area was making education unattractive and negatively affecting teaching and learning.
The MP said the situation was dire in some remote communities and called for immediate intervention from the Government.
He also called on the government to come up with a pragmatic and permanent solutions on the herdsmen menace in the constituency.
There have been clashes between cattle owners and farmers over grazing lands which often leads to the destruction of farmlands, killing of cattle, and even at times loss of lives, he said.
According to him, farmers in his constituency feel uncomfortable visiting their farmers due to how some cattle owners are tormenting their farms.
The out-gone president of the Association, Mr. JoesphTii Dari in his speech also appealed to government to set a regulatory body to ensure proper management of cashew which most Brifors cultivate.
“The current situation where the fixing of the price of the commodity is left in the hands of buyers is badly affecting the farmers, who are always compelled to sell their produce at ridiculously low prices,” he added.
Mr. Joseph again appealed the to government to fix the area’s deplorable roads to boost economic activities of the people.
According to him, the poor state of their roads makes transportation of goods and services difficult, especially to the various market centres in the area.
