The Gonjaland Youth Association has held its 49th Annual Congress in Sawla the Savannah Regional Capital on Saturday 19th April 2025.
Speaking at the Congress, the President of the GLYA Alhaji Amin Osman, mentioned that for the purposes of fostering unity and brotherliness amongst the people of Gonjaland, the leadership of the Association held meetings with other youth groups particularly, the Dagbon Youth,Manprugu Youth Association, Konkomba Youth Association and Nanumba Youth Association.
“So we are also collaborating with the Guan communities across the country, in order to foster unity among all the people of Guan origin.”
He added that, they have prepared a report which contains most of their achievements as well as challenges which they were confronted with during their period of service which will be made available to all members at this durbar.
He added that, the Association took special interest in the challenging matters against the peace and security of Gonjaland in general and Savannah
Region in particular, and also the priority of leadership was to ensure that, the requisite enabling environment exists for the people of Gonjaland to go about their lives in a productive manner.
The Association therefore worked in close collaboration with the National Security,
Ministry of the Interior and the Regional
Security Council of Savannah Region to identify ways of maintaining peace in Gonjaland, of particular interest and concern were issues related to land litigation, Internal and external boundary issues, chieftaincy disputes, the constant use of social media platforms to discuss traditional matters and general boundary issues with our neighboring kingdoms
Lawyer Amin Osman added that It is sad to state that, whereas the national access to electricity is about 86 percent, Savannah Region has the lowest electricity coverage with about 41 percent with Sawla Tuna Kalba as the lowest in the region, East Gonja Municipal, for the past 5 to 6 years has persistent low voltage hampering most business activities and causing hardship and insecurity in the area.
Again we are fortunate that the current Minister for Energy is a proud member of the Association and an Illustrious son of
Gonjaland whom we have utmost trust in his capabilities, We are confident that, the current state of Electricity coverage in Savannah Region will be addressedin order to bridge the gab between Savannah Region and the other Regions.
Another challenge is that education continues to be a challenge in Gonjaland,particularly the lack of infrastructure.
The GLYA proposed is for the creation of additional districts in Yapei Kusawgu District out of the Central
Gonja District, Kulaw District out of the East Gonja Municipality, South Gonja District out of the Kintampo North District and A District out of the Bole District.
“We are confident that, we will receive some good news on the need to dualise Techiman, Bole Wa road and also hope to see the immediate commencement of work on Tuna Kalba road,
Bole Township roads,
The completion of Bunjai Yapei road,
Tamale Salaga road,
Salaga Kpandai road,
Busunu Daboya road and Mangarigu Hamele roads he said “.

Development Of Gonjaland, The Role Of
The Youth ”
Delivering a speech at the congress on behalf of the President H.E John Mahama,The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agboza, noted that the Savannah Region will benefit from major road infrastructure upgrades under the Big Push initiative being implemented by the current John Dramani Mahama administration.
The Hon. Minister mentioned that nnder the Big Push programme, the will select specific road projects and that, when completed, will transform lives in the Savannah Region and Ghana at large.
Hon. Agboza He outlined several key projects earmarked for the Savannah Region, including the reconstruction of the Sawla-Damongo-Fufulso road, as well as other important links such as Busunu-Daboya, Mankarigu, Tuna, Kalba, and Sawla-Gbiniyiri.
The Minister of Roads and High Ways further noted that the Western Corridor roads from Wenchi through Bole, Wa to Hamile, and Bolgatanga to Wa as well as the Eastern Corridor network, are all slated for execution under the Big Push.
“I want to assured residents of the Savannah Region that the current Mahama administration remains committed to fixing the country’s road network, expressing hope that some of the projects will be completed within the next two years” he said.
