Background.
A devastating rainstorm swept through the Wechiau -Bao and Sanuor communities in the Wa -West District of the Upper West Region on April 19 ,2025, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
The storm destroyed a good number of houses and caused extensive damage.
The heavy rainstorm also brought down 8 high tension electricity poles, ripped off roofs, and severely damaged homes.
The area is currently plunged into darkness due to the destruction of power infrastructure.
The area, which is predominantly agricultural, saw farmers’ livelihoods destroyed in the storm. These farmers, already struggling due to the recent drought, now face the loss of crops such as maize, groundnuts and soybeans.
Without assistance, they will have nothing to sustain them in the short term.
Many of the affected residents are currently living in the open.
The residents have described the storm as intense, leaving chaos and widespread destruction behind. Many are left to pick up the pieces, counting their losses and assessing the damage.
The community’s Assembly member, Claudius Dare Kuuyoro, has appealed for help and support from the government and other agencies to assist those affected.
