The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a Social Audit engagement with Chiefs and people of the Sawla Tuna- Kalba a to sensitise them on the activities of the Assembly.

Mr Issahaku Losina, the Sawla Tuna- Kalba Director of the NCCE, who addressed the event at District Assembly hall said participation in Assembly’s activities could help the people to contribute to development programmes.

Mr Losina said social auditing promoted community ownership of development projects and policies, increase awareness of operations of local government and empower the citizenry to demand accountability from duty bearers.

Speaking at the program was the DCE and Hon.Saaka Sikina who explained that when we talk of the government, we are the government ourselves therefore when ever there is government project in a particular community or better still an on going projects native should always pay attention to keeping it in good condition.

In his address he assured the Konkrope and Sogoriyiri communities of electricity .

Mr Ahmed A Soale the regional programmes officer from the Savannah Regional NCCE office, said the programme is basically about social auditing which means putting citizens in the front seat of developmental intervention, ensuring that they owned the developmental interventions, take responsibility for the interventions to promote sustainability”.

The two communities were asked to list their needs after which those which were their top priorities were selected
Konkrope community stated that they needed a good road, electricity, portable water, teachers quarters, farmers support and a school block.

They also pleaded that the District Assembly is should kindly come and equipped their CHIPS compound with the necessary materials and commission it for them as the DCE said some time ago.

Also the natives of Sogoriyiri listed out their needs as well ,they pleaded to get a good road, electricity, CHPS Compound, a dam and a grinding mill.

At the end of the day ,the need of their people were carefully selected based on their own priorities that is electricity and good roads for both communities, adam for Konkrope and a CHPS Compound for Sogoriyiri, however Ahmed advised that natives should not behave as if they are not the owners of their needs when they finally get them therefore they would mishandle them.

With the help of Mr Ahmed A. Soale and Mr Issahaku Losina a seven member committee was formed among which of the community and a follow up plan was designed for them to ensure that their needs are granted.
