Call for Urgent Action as Sawla Dam’s Condition Worsens

The once serene oasis of the Sawla Dam in the middle of the community is wrestling with neglect and environmental decay, alarming the local community.

Long-regarded as a major source of water, the deteriorating condition of the dam has now elevated to a pressing concern, sparking outcry among residents and environmentalists alike.

The pollution and unkempt state of the dam have diminished not only its aesthetic value but also its ecological health.

Vegetation overgrowth, litter, and murky water have dissuaded visitors, casting shadow over its future .

Local residents have witnessed the dam’s decline firsthand.

The sentiments of disappointment and frustration were palpable during recent visits, as people arrived with the hope of enjoying nature but instead found a disappointing scene. “

The sense of desolation is not just limited to environmental concerns; it’s also about community safety and wellbeing.

The presence of litter, like scattered bottles, poses a physical hazard and the murky water is a symbol of the ecological neglect.

The responsibility for the Dam’s situation can seem diffuse and, as such, pinpointing the blame is not straightforward. However, the local sentiment reflects a perceived inaction from authorities — a belief that those in positions of power are not prioritizing this environmental issue.

“Today, I’m so disappointed because the government doesn’t do their work properly. We want to fetch the water, but it’s dirty. It’s not alright. It’s dirty,” said one despondent resident.

Amid these decries for help, there is a palpable resolve among the community demanding action.

Upgrades and maintenance are seen as the antidote to the decay that has taken hold of the dam. “I feel like this place needs an upgrade because there’s no one who is maintaining the place,” said a local, underscoring the collective desire for restoration.

There is a plea for the authorities to step in and provide the necessary attention and resources.

Residents are explicit in their calls for intervention, with recommendations for cleaning and maintaining the water being voiced as an urgent necessity for reviving Sawla Dam to its former status .

A concerned citizen of Sawla,Mr Kipo Ansumah ,recently voiced out his frustration of the deteroited dam as he said the dam is severely impacted by siltation and overgrowth of weeds.

According to him it requires reconstruction or a comprehensive dugout to restore its functionality and benefits to the community.

Yagbon news echoes the community’s call for immediate action.

It will continue to monitor the situation, urging the relevant authorities to engage with the residents and develop a sustainable plan that ensures the restoration and preservation of the Sawla Dam for present and future generations.
