The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Yusif Sulemana , has called for effective monitoring and supervision of the seedlings planted during the Tree For Life planting exercise.
Speaking at Bole Senior High School on the aftermath of the exercise, he maintained the monitoring must be done to boost government’s aggressive afforestation and reforestation programme.
“We need to make conscious efforts to nurture the trees by watering them, protect them from destruction, prevent fires, weed under them until they grow to maturity.”
Speaking to the media the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural resources Hon Yusif Sulemana expressed gratitude to all those who endeavored to plant a seedling on this important day .
To outlined what will be done differently from the previous exercise, the MP said the seedlings will be given to students to plant and nurture them.
He again there shall a tracker to track all seedlings planted.
The MP promised a scholarship package for students who are able to take care of their planted seedlings.
The secretary to Bolewura ,Mr Abdulai Haruna Obey said the Paramount Chief has shown immense commitment by advocating for environmental sustainability.
According obey, Bolewura has championed an action to stop illegal logging and charcoal burning .
These he said are indications of his support for this very important program by the government in sustaining the environment.
The DCE for Bole Hon Abdulai Muhammud said when the last tree dies the last man dies as the tree gives us oxygen and take carbon dioxide so if there are no trees to exchange what happens to human beings, he quizzed.
During a short ceremony at Bosec the Regional Forestry Commissioner, Mr Frank Adumako also called for the nurturing of the planted seedlings to sustain the environment for the unborn generation.
