The Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) has celebrated this year Damba at Damongo on Monday, September 23, 2024 on the theme “Fostering Peace, Progress And Prosperity”.
In a welcome address read by Benkromwura S.S Bakari on behalf of the King, he warmly welcomed His Excellency, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former president John Dramani Mahama, for taking time out
of their busy schedules to celebrate this year’s Damba with them .
Yagbonwura mentioned that 2024 general elections are just a little over two months from today and he knows both presidential candidates are busy on their campaign tours to sell their policies to the electorate, but have dedicated themselves to the celebration of the Yagbon Damba because of the importance and reverence they have attached to it.
Jira Yagbonwura also said, today also marks the historic launch of the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing educational
opportunities not just within our Kingdom but across the Savannah Region and
beyond.
Education is the bedrock of progress, the key that unlocks the future for our youth and the cornerstone of any prosperous society.
The King added that through this fund, we hope to uplift our young people by providing them with the tools and
opportunities they need to excel in a rapidly changing world.
“I therefore call upon
everyone, especially those in positions of influence and affluence, to contribute generously to this noble course” he said.
Bii-Kunuto also send a special message to the flag bearers of the two
major political parties, the NPP and the NDC. His Excellency Alhaji Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama are not just political opponents; they are brothers.
Gonjas and Mamprusis share a common history, a bond that transcends political affiliations.
Therefore, as we enter this election season, let us see it not as a battleground but as an opportunity for constructive engagement.
The outcome of this election, whichever way it goes, is a win-win for all of us.
Let us set an example for the rest of the country, showing that we can conduct ourselves with dignity and mutual respect, no matter the political outcome of elections.
Again Gonjas are known for their wisdom, patience, and unity, and I have no doubt that we will continue to uphold these values at this crucial time.
Navro Pio, Pe Asagepari II, Paramount Chief and President of Navrongo Traditional Council, who was also the special guest of honor mentioned that the theme for this year’s Yagbon Damba celebration, namely, Fostering Peace, Progress and Prosperity aptly reflects, not only, the aspirations of the good and God- fearing people of the Gonja kingdom but resonates well with the large population of the northern Ghana and the country at large.
Again it is an undeniable fact that peace and development are continuous processes that require constant cultivation and may necessitate decades of effort before the benefits are realized.
As we approach the December 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, it is important that as a people we jealously guide the peace we enjoy and strive to keep Ghana’s enviable record as a beacon of hope for democracy, good governance, peace, and stability, progress and prosperity in Africa.
Present at the Jakpa palace were Chiefs and Queen mothers, MP’s, DCE’s, Government appointees and sons and daughters of Gonjaland.
