The Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale l, has appealed to the government to construct public tertiary institutions in the Savannah Region to serve Senior High School students who graduate from the area.

He said this when he spoke at Damongo on Saturday, April 27, 2024 to mark his one year anniversary on the skin as the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom.

The Overlord specifically mentioned the establishment of a University and a Polyclinic which he was confident that would hasten the level of development in the area.

The celebration of the first anniversary of the king coincided with the annual congress of the Gonjaland Youth Association which was marked on theme “Celebrating our culture and tradition through unity for rapid socio economic development in Gonjaland”.

He again appealed to the government and other benevolent organizations to help salvage the long time water crisis in the Damongo which he said is affecting lives and productivity negatively in the area.

The Overlord also called for a peaceful election to ensure Ghana remains strong and united after the December 2024 poll.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Akufo Addo who was present at the event said that he is seeking the support of the Yagbonwura to ensure the elections that shall come on 7th December 2024 will be a peaceful one for the people of Savannah and Ghana at large.

The President noted that our country has a world deserved reputation as a beacon of democracy on the continent of Africa.

“So let’s us all work together to maintain this reputation for the upcoming elections”, he said.
