Wahidu Saaka from Kulmasa graps multiple Awards at just ended GIMUN Conference.

A student of the University of Education, Kumasi campus, Wahidu Saaka who hails from Kulmasa, a community in the Sawla-Tuna- Kalba District of Savannah Region has won multiple awards at the Ghana International Model United Nations (GIMUN), which was held at University of Ghana from 5th – 7th July, 2021.

The GIMUN is a model of the United Nations which seeks to engage students on issues of International relations and diplomacy.

The student who got the opportunity to attend the conference through the efforts of Mr Seidu Nuhu Banasco, a former Parliamentary candidate for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency on the ticket of NPP in the 2020 elections swooped two awards as in Best Delegate for the United Nations Environmental program and the overall best Delegate for the Ghana International Model United Nations 2021.

Wahidu Saaka who could hide his joy expressed words of appreciation to Mr.Banasco for given him the opportunity to attend such a conference and also urged his colleague students in other tertiary institutions to partake in subsequent conference of that nature as he said he had learnt a lot from the event.

Mr Seidu Nuhu Banasco, who was a guest speaker at the conference spoke on the topic” Empowering Girls through Coding”, under the importance of ICT in this 21st century.

He called on students leaders to actively participate in events like GIMUN to help them appreciate the importance of International relations and diplomacy.

The theme for the conference was, “A Step Further to Rebuild”. GIMUN 2021 brought both residential and online conference brought about three hundred young people together to simulate some Specialized Bodies of the United Nations.

The conference discussions focused on what more must to be done to make humanity better after the global pandemic of COVID-19 and other challenges.

The annual conference aims to prepare young people for global assignments by equipping them with leadership and diplomatic skills in research, writing, public speaking, lobbying and negotiations.

It also raises the awareness on the role the United Nations plays in world affairs and to encourage the next generation of leaders to get involved in global issues.
