Upper West Chapter of Credit Union Association Marks 2022 International Credit Union Day.

The West Chapter of the Credit Union Association on Saturday, October 15, 2022 joined the rest of the world to mark this year International Credit Union day at Wa .

The day is celebrated every year by members of credit unions across the globe to reflect on their achievements and way forward .

The theme for 2022 “”empower your financial future with a credit union”.

Speaking to members at the event the Credit Union Association chapter Manager Mr Kenneth Abobo, said it was in September 1955 that Credit Union was formed in Africa by name St Joseph at Jirapa in the upper West by Rev Father John Mark Nortti.

According to him, the union has now grown with the help of father Peter Paul Dery.

Accounting to members on their achievement as a chapter she said the chapter has a total asset of 79.8m and total staff of 145 and and a membership of 43.8m in the Upper west chapter.

Regional Director of Co-operative Union, Mr Stephen Sugulo said the day is celebrated everywhere in the world and said Credit Unions are stronger but was disappointed because of less numbers at the event considering the total membership in the chapter.

He admonished the staff and board to encourage members to save for the development of credit union .

This he said will let them report back to Bank of Ghana about the successes chalked and why credit union is the face of Ghana’s financial future.

In a speech, the Chapter Chairman, Mr Adams Natomah, said members should remember the day is to reflect on the creation and achievements of the union

He said this year’s theme focuses on the financial future of the members which means credit union should be able to resolve financial burden of it members .

Mr Issah Fussein, Manager the Bole Community Cooperative Credit union said members should remember that the first line of preference the members which means members totally own the credit union.

He stated that members should always pass by to check on them any time to keep the spirit of management.
