The 2022 inter-school games and athletics competition of the Mankuma Circuit under the Bole District Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service had come to a very successful conclusion at Mankuma.
The four-day event which began on Monday July 25,2022 ended on Thursday 28th July, 2022.
In the games category, surprised of the tournament Gbebiri Primary held the host team Mankuma Basic School to a goalless draw after 90 minutes.
During the very interesting penalty shoot out, Mankuma prevailed 2-1 after after all 8 intial penalties were either missed or saved.
For their performance, the much younger Gbeberi team who chose to compete only in the football were singled out for praise by the Special Guest of Honour, Honourable Seidu Thompson Abu who represented te District Director at the closing ceremony apart from being the Assemblyman for the Mankuma Electoral Area.
In volleyball, favourite Simariyiri beat Gbogdaa in the finals to win the girls’ category whiles Doli Basic School were victorious in the boys’ category.
Simariyiri again won the girls’ cross-country event whiles Doli came first in the boys’ event.
Gbogdaa Methodist Basic School with a total point tally of 123 came top of of the girls’ table. Meanwhile host Mankuma RC Basic School topped the boys table with 89 points.
In all, Simariyiri was adjudged the overall Champion having won two trophies and three second place finishes. Mankuma finished second also with two trophies but with one 1st runners up position whiles Doli also came third with the same two trophies but no second place finish.
Gbogdaa Methodist were 4th with one trophy, impressive Gbebiri 5th for placing second in football whiles Kakaisi, Dibouyiri mad Chanchire finished 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.
Beautiful trophies and nicely printed certificates were given out to deserving winners in all events.
Miss Tenegbe Enestina of Gbogdaa the was adjudged the best athlete in girls’ cross-country whiles Master Mumuni Ibrahim took the boys’ award.
Best girls Volleyball player went to Miss Kaniyitey Regina whiles Master Nye-Nye Destiny emerged as the best among the boys.
Master Braimah Rauf of Champions Mankuma Basic School was named best footballer.
For her outstanding performance in cross country and all other long distance events, Miss Tenegbe Enestina was named the best female athlete whiles Master Dari Gabriel of Simariyiri who participated in all sprint events was adjuged best Male athlete.
During the closing ceremony, the District Director of Education’s representative and Assemblyman for Electoral Area, Hon. Seidu Thompson Abu admonished all the pupils to be disciplined to in order to go higher in both academic and sports.
For his part, the School Improvement Support Officer(SISO) in charge of the Mankuma Circuit thanked all pupils and teachers as well as the Mankuma community especially the PTA chairman for thier respective roles played during the tournament.
Mr Edgard added that if the circuit remained united it would be difficult for any other circuit to defeat them in any event.
He also congratulated Mankuma RC JHS for winning the circuit inter- school quize competition that preceded the sports. He added that the quize should not be limited to only the Junior High Schools.
The acting District P.E Coordinator Mr Kipo Langa who was in Mankuma throughout said he was overwhelmed with the organization and the talents displayed. He said school sports has returned for good after break due to COVID-19.
In his closing remarks, a highly satisfied circuit Sports organizer, Mr Osman Issahaku aka Champion thanked all and sundry for the various contributions made to bringing the tournament to a successful end. But he observed that the circuit may luck a good volleyball team next year since all the best players would be exiting JHS.
Hence he announced that the SISO has approved a competition in to be organized for only primary schools.
In deed the Mankuma Circuit Inter-school Sports Championship was well organized. In fact it was more or less paperless since results were entered into an automated excel spreadsheet which ranked teams in various events and winners effortlessly generated.
The Mankuma Circuit deserves commendation from all objective sports people.
