Member of Parliament (MP) for Sawla-Tuna- Kalba Constituency in the Savannah Region, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey , has advised the youth in his constituency to reawaken their interest and commitment towards sporting activities, especially football.
According to him, sporting activities are beneficial to one’s mental acuity; enhancing the critical thinking ability of individuals who engage in it, hence the need for the youth to take it seriously.
“Studies have shown that being physically active through football lowers body fat, strengthens muscles and increases the likelihood of continuing good health habits later in life and the players also tend to have higher levels of self-esteem as well as lower levels of depression,” the MP observed.
The MP made this known when he donated twelve (12) sets of jerseys and twelve footballs (12) to be shared among the twelve circuits in the District currently participating in the ongoing inter – circuit sports competition been held at Tuna.
The MP’s Research Assistant, Mr Thomas Maalyong, who presented the items on his behalf at the opening ceremony of this year’s inter-circuit sports competition in Tuna reiterated the MP’s resolve to promote human development in the constituency including education.
He mentioned some prominent initiatives of the MP in his bid to improve education including the provision of Mathematical sets to BECE candidates since coming into office, sponsoring of annual mock exams for BECE candidates, renovation of education structures, ICT centres, furniture, among other things.
He encouraged them to dare strive to be like the likes of Mohammed Kudus who hails from Kpongri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.
He also reiterated the MP’s resolve to continue to support youth development programs, including sports in the District.
The GES Directorate on their part expressed their profound gratitude to the MP for the various supports he’s been giving to the directorate.
