Sawla -Tuna-Kalba District bedevilled with challenges.

The Sawla- Tuna-Kalba District in the Savannah Region, despite benefiting from numerous government interventions, is still bedevilled with numerous challenges making the quality of life difficult for the residents.

These challenges range from the lack of potable drinking water ,poor road network, inadequate extension of electricity , lack of a well structured markets, among others.

Mr Saaka Sinkina, the Sawla -Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive (DCE),made this known when UNDP with its development partners handed over entrepreneurial equipment to some border communities along the Black Volta in the District.

The Prevention Facility project under the UNDP handed over tricycles,motorbikes and groundnut processing machines to to the communities to support their entrepreneurial and economic activities and secure sustainable livelihoods, especially for women and youth.

These tools are to empower communities, strengthening resilience, and contributing to lasting peace.

The UNDP with its development partners donated 10 motorbikes, 12 tricycles, 2 Shea nut grinding machines, 2 Shea nut crushers, and 4 groundnut Shellers, 2 laptops and 2 printers to support Sawla – Tuna – Kalba and Tempane District and women and youth in selected at-risk border and cross – border communities to enhance livelihoods opportunities and support the efforts towards building cohesive societies that prevents radicalization to violent extremism.

The DCE expressed appreciation to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and their implementing partners for delivering a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing social cohesion.
