The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly has provided cash grants and livelihood equipment to 162 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) to support their businesses, education and healthcare needs.

The support was presented on Friday, August 21, 2026, during a durbar at the Assembly Community Centre, with the District Chief Executive, Hon. Sinkina Saaka, calling for greater inclusion of PWDs in the development of the district.

“Disability is not inability. What many PWDs need is not sympathy, but opportunity and the right tools to succeed,” Hon. Saaka said.

The beneficiaries received GH¢381,472 in cash grants, together with 12 deep freezers, six sewing machines, six tricycles, two motorised tricycles, three laptops, an oven and a weaving machine. More than GH¢243,000 was used to procure the items.

The District Social Welfare Director, Mr. Kilo Lawal, said the Assembly was improving its data collection to ensure that support reaches deserving beneficiaries fairly.

“Data collection is very important because it will help us ensure equal distribution of resources,” he noted.

He disclosed that 514 PWDs have so far been registered across 16 electoral areas, with the Assembly planning to assist those without Ghana Cards and National Health Insurance coverage.

Some beneficiaries thanked President John Dramani Mahama and Hon. Sinkina Saaka for the support, saying the assistance would help them become self-reliant and improve their families’ livelihoods.

They also appealed to the government to fulfil its remaining commitments, including the establishment of disability resource centres across the country. In other to improve their skills ability.
