The Savannah Regional Co-ordinator for Free Senior High School, Mr Alidu Iddrisu has advised parents to guide their wards in the selections of schools into the various Senior High Schools under the Computerized placement system.
Mr. Iddrisu stated this in an interview on Yagbon radio “Teacup show” on Monday 19th October 2020 as part of sensitization on the school selection module.
He said when Junior High School students are transiting to senior high school student have to go a particular platform called School Selection and Placement System to build a choice file when their results are put in the system to do the placement
Mr. Iddrisu explained that Senior High schools are categorised as A,B,C,D,E and F Where category A are the highly competitive schools and B,C in that order.
However, D is usually a day school, F is private schools. and E is a technical and vocational schools.
Mr. Iddrisu stated that school like TAMASCO is a category “A” school if a child is to do self placement, among schools that will be day for that matter a “D” school you will not see TAMASCO which means you will not be admitted as a boarden student.
So if your results are out and he is not placed you can go back and do self placement on available schools.
Mr. Iddrisu explained that in Category A is only on one school. B and C are more than one school to chose. However D are compulsory because D is a day school in your catchment area and the E is a technical and vocational school.
Mr. Iddrisu however advised that student should chose the D carefully in the event he/she is not placed in any of the three but will get the day school.
He also said all category A schools can also be found in B C and D categories because A and B are multiple choices, D is a day school and E is a technical school but a top school. So in all the student is supposed to make five choices.
He however pleaded with parents to do choices in consultation with teachers who know the strength of these children academically.
Meanwhile if a student has already made a choice and will want to change should contact the District Exam officer for corrections.
During the self placement parent should not allow their wards to do it by themselves. He said parents should be there and make sure the school that were chosen are their choice not to come back complaining.
The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) allows GES to place qualified candidates who sit for the BECE at the Junior High School level into any public senior high, technical or vocational school.
For many, though the CSSPS is embattled with many challenges, it seems to have instilled some level of sanity, fairness and ease into the admission of students into the selection of schools.
Parents and guardians have been strongly advised to take keen interest in the selection processes for a smooth placement of students.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to take active interest in guiding their wards to choose schools based on their performance”.
According to the Service, parents and students should “seek for explanations and clarifications from the school management if [they] do not know what to do”.
