Former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Lordina Mahama has commissioned an ultra-modern 45- bed capacity maternity and children’s ward for the Bole District Hospital, being the first of it kind in the Hospital after 48 years of existence.
The 45-bed facility has a neonatal care unit, 3 incubators, 5 phototherapy units, a kangaroo mother and child care center, a delivery room, a recovery ward, a theater and accessories, a sterilization room, a doctors’ consultancy room, and nurses’ work station among others.
The commission of the project through the Lordina Foundation is in celebration of the couple’s 30th marriage anniversary.
During the commissioning, Mrs. Mahama said “I welcome you all for joining us to officially open and hand over this newly maternity and children’s ward for the people of Bole and it’s surrounding communities, of course this beautiful area called Bole is my home”.
The facility is to help address the health needs of the people of Bole, in partnership with Lordina Foundation I am personally excited the project has successfully completed, guided by our motto “the more we share the more we have”.
The former first lady observed that no matter how brilliant, committed and dedicated healthcare providers might be, they could not give of their best, without the needed resources and tools.
The Bole District Health Director, Hajia Fuseina said the day will surely go down in the history of Bole District hospital, Ghana Hralth Service and the entire Bole as a memorable one.
Your Excellency, the District hospital was commissioned by Colonel Achampong in 1974, which will be fifty years next two years.
However the structures of the hospital have not received any major rehabilitation thereby resulting in huge cracks, heavy roof leakages and electrical wiring problems.
Your Excellency, your decision to respond to our appeal to provide Bole hospital and the people of Bole with a well equipped ultra- modern maternity and children’s ward has come at the appropriate time.
We thank you so much and we appreciate that, we promise to put it in a good use.
Speaking at the event on behalf of the Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso(l), Haruna Abdulai Obey, said today is a very special day for us,a day we have expected for a long time and a day that is destined to be remembered by the history of Bole Traditional Area and Gonja Kingdom at large.
It’s a great honor that I, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso (I) Paramount Chief of Bole Traditional Area is part of this important occasion and share with you this exciting moment.
Health service delivery for both women and children is a very important component of economic and infrastructural development, he noted.
I, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso (I) do not see this project from our wife Mrs Lordina Mahama as just a project but a love project.
“What our wife has done is unprecedented and we will never forget this. She could have sent this project to Nkoranza where she comes from but decided to bring it to Bole, her husband’s hometown. It shows that our wife really loves us. We appreciate this and will continue to pray for her and love her more, he added.
