Although the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are yet to elect their torchbearers for the 2024 Presidential election, the Savannah Regional Tescon coordinator and a communication team member of the Bole-Bamboi constituency, Mr Andrews Choribee has said that the polls will certainly be an electoral battle between Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the NPP, and former President John Dramani Mahama for the NDC.
On the side of the NPP, at least, 7 stalwarts have declared their interest to be the flagbearer of the party.
They are Former Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kyerematen, Assin Central Lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong, former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie, Former Roads and Highway minister,Joe Ghartey and Former Mampong Member of Parliament,Addai Nimoh.
Dr Bawumia is yet to publicly declare his intention but he is most likely to contest.
Mr Andrews speaking on Yagbon radio morning show on Thursday, February 2,2023, indicated that Dr Bawumia has been loyal to the party and had served the party and the country in good faith as a Vice president.
I would loved to see that history made that two Northern brothers will be on the ballot vying for the presidency.
He opined that any of the candidates can serve the party in their capacities as a flagbearer of the NPP but he thinks that Dr Bawumia will be a perfect match for John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 polls.
